2011 Auction Event & Auction Year Proceeds and Distribution Report

On the day of the 28th Annual World Hunger Auction, W. W. Naff, Jr. Memorial, hundreds of people gathered for what proved to be another successful and fun-filled time together.  Total proceeds from the day were in excess of $31,000 which will be added to the $25,000 that has been raised from other activities. While we are prone to compare one year to another in order to determine whether the auction was a success, and this will probably be the greatest amount of money raised in any one year, the real measure of success is how much was raised as compared to what would have been raised had we done nothing.

A by-product of the gathering was the opportunity for lots of wonderful fellowship as people renewed friendships and neighbors shared time together.  One family even used the auction as the kick-off for their family reunion which convened later in the day.

For 2011, the World Hunger Auction committee is blessed to have the opportunity to disburse the proceeds from the 2011 events.  A total of $58,400 will be shared with:

·         $29,250 going to Heifer for international projects,

·         $5,850 to Heifer for domestic projects,

·         $14,500 to Roanoke Area Ministries,

·         $5,850 to the Church of the Brethren Global Food Crisis Fund, and

·         $2,950 to Heavenly Manna.

The committee and hungry people share heartfelt thanks to all who participated in so many ways with such unbelievable generosity.

Auction Year 2010 Financial Report Released

The total amount raised in all the World Hunger Auction events in 2010 totaled $55,254.17 which is approximately $5,000 more than last year.  The WHA steering committee has distributed the funds as follows:

Heifer International for domestic projects $5,500
Roanoke Area Ministries $13,750
Church of the Brethren Global Food Crisis Fund $5,500
