2nd Annual Winter Musical Jamboree a Resounding Success

A near "standing room only" crowd gathered for the World Hunger Winter Musical Jamboree the evening of January 26th at Smith Mountain Lake Church of the Brethren.  Wonderful musical performances by Larry Seay and the Fagan sisters were enjoyed by all.  In addition to enjoying music, fellowship and food, we raised $1,250 to support our world hunger activities.   

Dozens Walk for World Hunger

On April 27, 2008 over 75 people representing over thirteen churches and groups completed the World Hunger Walk raising over $5,000.  Much appreciation to all who participated as walkers, sponsors and helpers to make the walk such a success.  The money will help make a difference to our hungry brothers and sisters.   

Golf Tournament Attracts over 50 Golfers

On May 17, 2008 over 15 teams of local golfers participated in the annual World Hunger Golf Tournament at Mariner's Landing Golf & Country Club at beautiful Smith Mountain Lake, VA.  A wonderful day of fun-filled fellowship, food and golf was enjoyed by all; culminating in nearly $2,500 raised for world hunger via golfer participation fees and hole sponsorships by local businesses.

Over $5,500 Raised During World Hunger Bike Ride

On June 7, 2008 45 bike riders raised over $5,500 dollars for world hunger thru registration fees and ride sponsorships.  There were participants from Franklin County, Roanoke, Bedford and beyond.  The most popular ride was the 25 mile loop, but there were also many riders participating in  the 5, 10 and 50 mile routes.  Thanks to all of the bikers and sponsors who peddled their way to alleviate world hunger on a beautiful (but warm) Saturday morning. 

Making Music in Support of World Hunger

On Sunday, June 8 a packed house at Antioch Church of the Brethren enjoyed a very entertaining afternoon of advanced organ compilations by Franklin County's own Jonathan Emmons followed by a delicious dessert social.  Over $1,500 was raised at this event in support of World Hunger.   Thanks to all those attending and a big thank you to Jonathan for providing the wonderful music!  

 Music, Magic, Food and Fellowship to Feed the Hungry 

On Saturday, July, 19th and many more gathered for our annual Family Fun Day at Monte Vista for a wonderful evening of entertainment, activities, food and fellowship.  The event raised over $1,100 dollars to help those in need.   Many thanks to those who prepared, hosted, supported, attended and participated in this enjoyable event.

Wonderful Weather, Crowd and Proceeds at Our Main Event....The Annual World Hunger Auction 

On Saturday, August, 9th  hundreds gathered on a beautiful summer morning for our annual World Hunger Auction at Antioch Church of the Brethren.  In addition to delicious food and produce, the auction provided the opportunity to purchase livestock, custom furniture, quilts, artwork, plants, and much, much more; all to support the hungry of the world. This one-day event raised over $30,000 dollars, 100% of which will be combined with proceeds from all of the activities listed above to help those in need in Franklin County, Roanoke and around the world.
