The 21st World Hunger Walk

This annual event is organized and sponsored each year by several area churches. The funds raised are distributed to local, national and international organizations known for their ability to make the most of contributions received. Among those receiving support are Heavenly Manna food bank in Franklin County, R.A.M. House in Roanoke, Heifer Project International based in Arkansas and Global Food Crisis. Each of these organizations either provides food directly to those in need, or they provide a means for self-sustainment.

The walk has two purposes. First we hope to raise public awareness to the fact that many people are in need of something most of us take for granted everyday, and that is food. Secondly it is a fundraiser designed specifically for providing food to people in need. Since we are staffed completely by volunteers and most of our events are supported by churches and local businesses, almost 100% of the money generated goes directly to well studied, reputable charities like those mentioned above.

As for the actual walk, it is six miles in length, along rural country roads in the Antioch Church of the Brethren community of Franklin County. You will see the beautiful outdoors and meet new people who share the same caring attitude for others that you have. Rest stops will be provided along the way with refreshments at the end.

You can make a difference in the lives of more people than you ever imagined.
